Reduce the stress of moving by getting organized ahead of time.

4 – 6 weeks before:

• Do your Homework – research your destination country, their regulations, and gather the forms and documents you’ll need. Be sure to ask us about vehicle and pet regulations in your destination country.
• Decide what you will move – make a list of items you’d like to take with you.
• Request a Quote from AAAA Forwarding – based on your list of items, or with a personal site survey, we can provide you with a cost estimate for your move, from door to door.
• Get rid of Trash – eliminate as much as possible. Clean out closets, crawl spaces and the garage. Hold a yard sale, donate to charity, ask to borrow your neighbors’ trash bin. Dispose of any flammable or hazardous materials at the appropriate facility, as these cannot be transported.
• Contact schools about transferring records.

2-3 weeks before:

• Decide on a pack day – we need to secure a day with the packers. Depending on the size of your move, you may need 1 day to pack up and 1 day to load a container.
• Picture your destination Home without your furnishings. Consider that an ocean shipment can easily take 6 to 8 weeks to arrive. Decide if you’d like to put together a small air shipment of necessities, which would arrive in approximately 1 week. Identify & mark the items to go by air.
• Start using up food supplies & freezer items.
• Notify banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, utilities, gyms, etc., of your move date.
• Ask your doctor for medical prescriptions and medical records for each family member.
• Make copies of vehicle registrations and insurance records.
• Make arrangements for your pets and children to be out of the house on moving day.
• Notify friends and family of your move.
• Complete your change of address form with the Post Office.

The final week:

• Cancel the newspaper
• Defrost the freezer & clean the appliances.
• Pack enough clothing & medications for 2 weeks

The day before:

• Turn off and pack up computers

• Bags should be all packed.
  
  
• Verify packers estimated time of arrival.
  
  
• Confirm with AAAA Forwarding, Inc that you have provided destination contact information

On Move Day:

• Supervise packing
  
  
• Keep a copy of the Inventory sheets
  
  
• Do a final visual check of all rooms

Remember: your delivery dates are only estimates. Many factors can change the schedule, so try and remain flexible. Make sure your shipper has your contact information so you can always be reached for updates or changes.
